song on the top of my head

i'll get over you, i know i will
i'll pretend my ship's not sinking
and i'll tell myself, i'm over you
'coz i'm the queen of wishful thinking."

holding back

Here I go again going through all the motions of falling for somebody and yet holding back because it just won’t work out for us. You see, it would’ve been perfect, but it’s not. It would’ve been okay for me, but I guess not for him. Braving the unexpected cold of the night we went to a park. We talked, reminisced about the past... and that’s it. I was tempted to hold his hand in mine, because he’s cold and I’m cold, but I held back. I guess it would just complicate things. It’s complicated enough as it is you know.

Holding back is good.... Holding back is best.

i was bored to death one day when a print ad in a magazine caught my eye. it was a simple ad of a deodorant brand. cute yung ad, kaya nga ginupit ko agad at pi-nost sa bulletin board ko sa kwarto.
eto yung nilalaman nung ad:

ban self doubt.... join a rock band.
ban excuses.... ask him out anyway.
ban peer pressure.... sign up for chess club.
ban stereotypes.... try out for the men's team.
ban inhibition.... keep the lights on.
ban fear.... sing in public.
ban broken hearts.... kiss a stranger.
ban conformity.... don't get a tattoo.
ban ignorance.... ask tough questions.
ban hate.... throw a party for your enemy.

captain barbell and darna to the homesick pinoy's rescue

we went out last night. we drove amidst the pouring rain and the very cold weather (yeah! so much for spring..) to go to atlantic city. yes, it was very much like the sex and the city episode minus the men hunting and the throwing away of money into those damn slot machines. we went there as with the other pinoys to watch regine velasquez and ogie alcasid perform in the taj mahal. you see, pinoys here are suckers for events like these. they would do anything, even drive through crazy weather just to see pinoy pop icons do their thing on stage.

anyways, the concert was okay. nothing spectacular. it's the same old stuff that they do on SOP except for the part where they had to wear captain barbell and darna costumes and sing the captain barbell theme song for the encore. what's up with that?!? they should've scrapped the whole thing and went to their respective rooms, called it a night and rested.

the best thing about going there was that i was able to see old friends and acquaintances from work and even way back in high school. it was fun meeting them once again and sharing stories of homesickness and of coping. small world. there's def

remembering rehill

Apartment 505 on 373 east main street is now beginning to look like home to us. We moved in afternoon of Monday, after getting very little sleep because the three of us came from graveyard shifts. The day after the big moving in, we got identical muscle aches which were obviously from lugging in most of the stuff we had accumulated in the house we fondly call Rehill.

Rehill Avenue is the name of the street where I spent a lot of my firsts in the usa. It is where my first residence is. A two bedroom, 1 bathroom, 2 car garage house with the basement as the laundry area (na ginawang laundromat ng mga kasamahan naming pinoy, the time when the washing machines in the apartment building died out on them.) I spent my first few days in Rehill with two other girls, Cathy and Joyce. I celebrated my first “imported” birthday in that house; burned the telephone lines of Rehill communicating with my folks and sister back home and my old friends who were here in the us way before me; and of course, how can I forget? I saw my first snowfall through the glass window of that house.

Now, we still go to Rehill, but only to get some of the stuff that we left behind. It’s kinda sad to see it empty. It used to be filled with half empty balikbayan boxes waiting to be filled up, my fresh laundry that needs folding, joyce’s order catalogs for scrub suits and dvd’s, mga kalat ni Cathy (he he he)....shit! 3 months na pala. Three months of being enveloped in the warmth of that house... literally! Thanks to it’s old fashioned heating system. I will miss the stationary bike by the window, the heavily stained couch which we covered with a fitted bed sheet and the trips down the basement to tend to the laundry. I will miss Rehill.

Years from now, each one of us would get our own house (wish ko lang!). I know that whenever I would be passing by that street, I would be reminded of the memories we had at Rehill. The fun, the hardships of being homesick, the adjusment, the sleepless nights and the girl talks (or was it sex talks?). oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
