annoyingly weird or weirdly annoying?
it rained the other day while joyce and i went to the circle to return some of the purchases we had the previous week. the weather is beginning to get chilly here now and the rain made it worse for people who hate the cold weather. i loved it though. i love the feeling of walking under the rain. i love how the streets look like after a not so heavy downpour. i love drinking coffee or curling up in bed with a very good book on a rainy afternoon. i hope the weather is always like this. i hope winter wouldn't come and ruin everything with it's "panirang araw" na snow.
but i digress. while trying to kill time, we decided to go inside barnes and nobles which was also at the circle. while joyce was shopping for childrens books, i got myself a cup of coffee, a nice compilation of essays type of book and settled myself on a bench in a very isolated corner. while i was beginning to read. a man probably in his late thirties sat on one of the chairs near the bench and started to make a conversation.
mamang walang magawa: so what are you having?
me: huh?
mamang walang magawa: whats on that cup of yours?
me: arabian mocha java or something like that, sorry i forgot... (went back to my reading)
mamang walang magawa: is it good?
(on my mind): well, it's better than having someone disturb you in the middle of your reading!
me: yeah. (back to what i'm reading)
after probably a minute....
me: (snickering at a funny line on the book i'm reading.)
mamang walang magawa: do you like what you're reading?
(on my mind): for the love of God, will you please leave me alone!
me: yeah, it's so funny. (buried my nose on the book)
mamang walang magawa: what's it called?
(on my mind sarcastically): a book?!
me: the title is "not so funny when it happened... the best of travel humor and misadventure" (back to the book)
mamang walang magawa: what is it about?
(on my mind): aba hindi rin to makulit ah!
me: it's a collection of funny essays about travel written by different authors. try reading it. it's on one of those shelves to the right.
mamang walang magawa: do you work here?
(on my mind): do i look like i freakin work here? is it realistic to get a paycheck by hanging around some corner drinking coffee and reading a book?
me: oh no... i'm just hanging around waiting for my friend to finish buying her books.
at this time his phone rings which got him occupied for a while (hallelujah!). i mouthed "i have to go" to him while he's on the phone, and looked for another isolated spot away from him.
note to self: a lot of people are weird and some of the weird people are annoying. it's just my lucky day that a weird, annoying person sat beside me and got into my nerves. good thing i've got inner poise. hindi ko siya nasakal sa inis!
